Please, how can I update my Mac OS X from 10.3.9 to 10.4?
Question by Hiya!: Please, how can I update my Mac OS X from 10.3.9 to 10.4?
I have a Mac Powerbook G4 and I’m getting frustrated because I can’t do any software updates (Flash, Adobe, iTunes) without OS X 10.4 and I have 10.3.9. When I click “Software Updates” under the apple menu, it says my software is up to date. Also, I don’t see an appropriate OS X update on the apple website.

Hi There,
There is no download for the update. You need Tiger 10.4.0 on CD or DVD.That is the next version after 10.3.9.You can go thru the Apple store or another authorized Apple dealer. You might have some luck on Ebay as well.
You can then update via Software Update to 10.4.11 before you hit Leopard.
Best Of Luck…

My real suspicion is that you are using the OS disks that
came with another computer, say a PowerBook. As far as
my experience goes this will not work. The OS disks that
come with computers are specific to that model of
computer. I think it might go as far as a 15″ PowerBook
disk might not work on a 17″ PowerBook disk but I
seriously doubt that is true.
Good luck!
Or go to the macos forum

I have a PowerMac G5. I know your frustrations. When you go to software update, the update is for your computer and operating system only. I still run 10.3.9 myself. The way to upgrade is to purchase OS X 10.5 on DVD. There are specs on the apple website which I have included below. Also, I have included a site where you can save a few dollars in purchasing OS X 10.5 online.
Hope this helps
