Why did my expected 2008 tax refund date change from January 30th to February 6th to February 10th?

Question by Kelly C: Why did my expected 2008 tax refund date change from January 30th to February 6th to February 10th?
Filed and accepted on January 16th through Tax Brain and accepted by the IRS on January 17th. Requested the 2 week rapid refund and paid for it, and expected date from SBBT was January 30th. Checked irs.gov three days ago and it said that expected refund would be February 6th. Checked yesterday as well as today and now it says February 10th.

After endless answer searching online I still could not find a plausible answer. So I decided to go through the expected nightmare of contacting the IRS by phone and speaking with a machine…errrr…robot…..errr some form of life that speaks. After a 20 minute wait my call was answered. I was not told anything about a glitch or error. What I was told was that I would NOT be receiving my refund tomorrow.

****ANSWER: I was told that the IRS had to make a minor correction to my return and that is what caused the delay. He could not tell me what the correction was(the system does not tell him), only that it was minor therefore the IRS did not need to contact me to make the correction.****

Prefaced by “its not set in stone”, he said I should receive my refund on February 10. I went on to ask what could have been possibly corrected seeing as I used the same certified website I have used the past 8 years which uses software to prepare the return and I have never had this problem before. Again, he did not have an answer. He concluded with the IRS company line of “check the website next week and you should see new updates”.

The only correction I think that might have needed to be done was correcting the control number on my W-2, as I filed off of my last paycheck. Since filing I have received my W-2 and everything but the control number was entered correctly. I really really really don’t think that would cause a 7 day delay. Soooooo…..Cynical as I am I still don’t have an answer I can trust and honestly that sucks. I guess all we can do is keep FIGHTING THE POWER!

ANYONE HAVE A REALISTIC ANSWER THAT MAKES SENSE?

browse through the questions on here and they all ask the same similar questions. i opted for e-file and was given a date of the 30th. then it changed to the 10th as well. the IRS is having computer problems. but if you e-file yourself, go to the website you used and check your status. I used taxact and it still says the 30th.

good luck

Bet the question was in you claiming if or not you got the rebate of last year and how much you received. Those are the things that are being checked because soo many people have tried to double dip Immediate flag on return if they say they did not receive or the number are different.

same story here, switched from 2/3 to 2/10. I have a feeling its just the IRS being super lazy again. They can’t ever seem to get their act togther except when they are taking your money.

And im sorry to put it to you so bluntly, but you will not find an answer, and to be honest with ya I dont think it was anything you did wrong. I have checked and doubled checked my return thinking it was error on my part, but I have yet to find any mistakes and you were lucky to talk to a live person; all I keep getting is automatied lines. I filed my return the 18th and the date of my expected retun has been pushed as far back as the 10th of Feb. This is such a dispointment. This is a huge mess and everyone else is searching for the same explaination!!! i wish you as well as every other American all the best of luck!!
